Overview
As a carpool driver, you can receive a discounted parking rate through the CellOPark app when you complete a verified carpool trip. This guide explains how the parking discount works and what to do if it's not applying.
How to Get Your Parking Discount
1. Sign up to your carpooling app and enter your vehicle registration (plate number) in your profile.
2. Sign up to the CellOPark app using the same vehicle registration. You can learn more about how CellOPark works at https://site.cellopark.com.au/how-it-works/.
3. Complete your carpool trip using the carpooling app.
4. Park on the designated parking area.
5. Open the CellOPark app and start a parking session, selecting the designated carpool zone (if applicable).
6. The CellOPark app will automatically verify your carpool trip and apply the discounted parking rate.
If you are not eligible for the discount, a "Restrictions apply" message will appear in the CellOPark app.
Note for university campuses: CellOPark has specific setup requirements for different universities. It's best to check directly with your campus parking office or CellOPark to ensure your account is configured correctly for your location.
Important Things to Know
- Your plate number must match exactly in both the carpooling app and the CellOPark app. If they are different, the discount will not apply.
- Do not edit your plate number in the carpooling app after your ride has been created— this will prevent the discount from being applied.
- Timing matters — the parking discount only becomes available after your passenger has been picked up and the trip has been verified. Starting a parking session before your trip is verified will not apply the discount.
- If you change vehicles for a trip, make sure the updated vehicle registration is reflected in both apps.
If you recently changed the vehicle you're using for your carpool trip, ensure you've updated the vehicle registration in both your carpooling app and your CellOPark account. The new vehicle must be set before the trip is matched.
Troubleshooting
My discount isn't showing in CellOPark
- Check your plate number — Confirm that the vehicle registration in your carpooling app profile matches exactly what's in your CellOPark account (including spaces, capitalisation, etc.).
- Check the timing — Make sure your carpool passenger has actually been picked up and the trip has been verified before you start your CellOPark parking session. There can be a short delay between pickup and the discount becoming available.
- Check the parking zone — Make sure you've selected the correct carpool zone in CellOPark for your campus. If you're unsure which zone to select, check with your campus parking office.
- Check paid parking hours — Some campuses offer free parking after a certain time (e.g. after 4:30 PM). The carpool discount only applies during paid parking hours.
